Seeing a cockroach is one of the best indicators that you may have a roach infestation problem. There are a number of other things that may tell you if you have roaches and possibly how many. Once you see any of these indicators the best thing to do is to find an exterminator to help you take care of this insect problem.
Live Cockroaches
This is the first, and most obvious sign that you may have an infestation problem. Roaches are a nocturnal insect. You will most often find roaches in the evening hours. If you are seeing them in the daytime, it can be a sign of just how bad your roach problem may be. One of the reasons that a roach can be seen during the day is that the nest is so large that some of the roaches have been forced out.
Dead Roaches

If you are finding a large amount of these droppings, you may have a decent sized nest of cockroaches in your home. It is best to call in an exterminator to locate and remove these pests.
Cockroach Shells
As a roach matures, it will grow out of its skin. These roach casings are a good indicator of a roach problem. Also finding these shells is a good sign that you have a mature nest in your home. It shows that the roaches have been living there for a while and are growing and expanding. The shell will often be dark brown, oval, and smallish in size. the size of the shell will be dependent on the type of roach that it is.
Cockroach Odor
One of the best signs of a cockroach infestation is that you will have an odor in your home. Roaches will give off a strong oily, or musty odor. The stronger that this odor is, the worse your problem may be. You may also notice an odor that comes from decaying bodies in your home.
